This blog comes to you in two parts.

Part one,  a quickwrite also known as homework.

Despite the fact that many in the class will probably chose to write about the first topic, for today my desire to discuss the first idea trumps my need to be unique. The idea that the meaning of a piece of literature can only discovered though the "collaborative effort beween the author, reader, and text" is a theory I have believed since I heard it sometime in my Junior year of High School. This phrase resonated with me back then as it does today. When I analyze texts, pieces of art, really, I feel as though I am always coming up with an unique take that others often don't understand. Authors cant possibly intend to inspire every single idea that springs from his or her work. that is impossible. Nor is it realistic to say that  a pice of work, a story can mean what ever I want it to. In order for a theme to be in a book etc. there must be ample evidence to suport its credibility. It truly is the culmination of the readers experiences and point of view, the authors intentions as he or she wrote the pice of literature, and the words themselves that create the meanings behind the art.

Part two, me blathering like an idiot.

As I'm sure you can tell, as this is the first post in this blog, today was my first day of english. Specifically, advanced composition, critical thinking, and literature.  I can not express how excited I am to be taking english again! Not needing to take english last year was painful, though I think that english 100 is more of a grammer based class than a corse in thinking. So, perhaps passing the AP Comp. test was not a bad idea after all.

One of the main reasons I'm ecstatic to take this class is the teacher. Five minutes into the class and I had already fallen head over heals in love with her teaching style. Dr. Bell's use of words and the sentence structure she uses when she speaks with draws me in. Not to mention her rich vocabulary, sprinkled delicately across the phases. Not pompous, just intelligent. I never thought there would be a day where I would fall in love with the way in which an individual speaks. Dr. Bell mention how she tries to emulate my view on essay writing, well my goal for the semester is to learn to speak and write the the grace you do.
